A

Assigned/unassigned
A bag attribute. Indicates whether the bag has been assigned to a specific driver for delivery. Displays in the Driver Status field in BDS Web.

B

Bag status

The current delivery status of a bag.

  • New: A BDO has been created, and the bag has not yet been processed for delivery.

  • Pickup Scheduled / Scheduled for Pickup: The date/time when a bag should be picked up by the driver. Pickup refers to the transfer of a bag from the airline to the delivery company.

  • Picked Up: A bag has been picked up by a driver. Pickup refers to the transfer of a bag from the airline to the delivery company. This status is visible to the airline in the history of the WorldTracer file, in the UP element.

  • Delivery Scheduled / Scheduled: An estimated delivery date/time to the passenger is present in the BDO. This can be entered by the dispatcher or the driver.

  • Delivered: A bag has been delivered to the passenger, and delivery confirmed. Delivered bags are displayed in BDS for 72 hours after delivery.

  • Attempted Delivery The driver has tried to deliver but has been unsuccessful. The number delivery attempts allowed is set by the delivery company.

  • Not Delivered: Delivery has failed, by the number of delivery attempts allowed.

  • Canceled: The bag delivery has been canceled by the Dispatcher. Bags are displayed with a red background.

  • Returned to Airline: After delivery has failed or been canceled, the bag has been returned to the airline. Bags are displayed with a blue background.

Bag Delivery Order (BDO)
A file created by the airline or ground handler using the WorldTracer application, to instruct the delivery company to deliver a bag. Details of the BDO are visible to users of BDS.
Bag warehouse
The sortation facility of an airline or delivery company, where bags are picked up by delivery drivers for delivery to the passenger.

D

Dispatcher
An agent working for a delivery company using BDS Web. Assigns bags to delivery drivers, sets the type of service for the bag delivery, and can set the scheduled delivery time for the passenger. Can also create a manual BDO. Some delivery companies do not have a dispatcher, and rely on the drivers to assign bags to themselves.
Delivery driver
A driver who delivers bags to their final destination. They can collect bags from the airport or from a bag warehouse, depending on company practice. In the BDS Driver App, delivery drivers only see bags assigned to them by the dispatcher. They update the bag status when they deliver a bag.

O

Offline mode
A mode used to continue working in the BDS Driver App when the connection to WebBDS is down. The systems automatically synchronize when the connection is re-established.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
A feature in BDS Driver App to scan a BDO reference. Used to select a bag to process using the app.
Optimized route
A route calculated in WebBDS or BDS Driver App using Google maps, as the most efficient route to deliver bags to passengers.

P

Pickup
The handover of a bag from the airline/handler to the delivery company.
Pickup driver
A driver who collects bags from the airport, and delivers bags to passengers. In the BDS Driver App, pickup drivers see all unassigned bags, and can assign bags to themselves.
Used when the delivery company does not have a dispatcher to assign bags to drivers, or when a driver collects bags from the airport and deposits them at a bag warehouse where the other drivers collect them for delivery.
Pickup tour
A list of defined pickup times, set by the BDS administrator. A pickup time is selected by the dispatcher to advise the time a bag is scheduled for pickup by a driver.

R

Rating
The number of stars awarded by a passenger for the delivery of their bag. An optional feature in the BDS Driver App.
Return to airline
A workflow in BDS whereby bags are returned to the airline because they could not be delivered, or the dispatcher canceled the delivery.

S

Scheduled delivery
The date/time when a bag will be delivered to its passenger.
Scheduled pickup
The date/time when a bag will be collected by a driver.

T

Tracking number
A unique number for a delivery company, used for the company's internal processes, which is visible to the driver and dispatcher, and is included in the billing report. The tracking number is entered into the WorldTracer configuration and is then included in the BDO.
Type of service
The delivery service appropriate to the passenger. For example, Express or Standard delivery.

W

WorldTracer
A SITA application used by airlines and ground handlers to register mishandled bags and reunite them with the passenger. Bag delivery orders (BDOs) created in WorldTracer are automatically transferred to the BDS application.
WorldTracer agent
An airline or ground handler agent using the WorldTracer application to process mishandled bags. Creates a BDO in WorldTracer, which assigns the bag to a delivery company, sets the pickup date/time.
